This is an exquisite Berber wedding blanket or Handira from the Beni Ourain people.
It is finely handwoven from sheep wool, and is filled with magical, intricate bands of beautifully detailed weaving.
The flip side consists of long strands of wool and the blanket would orignially be worn as a heavy wedding shawl, to be worn around the shoulders of a Beni Ourain bride as she rode away from her family after marriage...the long strands of wool would stop the snow from sticking to the blanket - it is a chilly mountainous region.
